1986 bronco 2 - 4 x 4 , 280,000 miles. original motor. everything works on this baby, however last week while driving, the entire electrical system seems to have shut off. No lights, no blinkers, no console or gauges worked. However, the vehicle kept going for the next two miles, till I drove into the yard, where it went dead. Tried turning it over...no power at all. After sitting for two hours, I turned it over and it started immediately, and have had no problem since.

well, I bought a new battery and a new higher amperage alternator than the one that normal comes with this bronco. I have lights and accessores on it that may have over taxed the alternator causing it to quit charging? Does sound like what might have happened?

well, I'm still asking what would have been the problem with my electrical system crashing like it did. Did I indeed , over tax the alternator? I would like to install an alternator that is 80 amp, but reading the instructions on it , says not to install a greater one than came with the bronco. I notice this new 80 amp alternator has three leads coming off it, whereas my old 60 amp alternator only has two leads. Can you tell me how to install it now that it has these three leads?
