conversion

I have a 1989 ford bronco xlt. It has the 302 5.0 8 cylinder 5 speed manual tranny. The engine is in great condition but the truck it self is in crappy condition. I would like to take the engine out and put it into a car. What car could i put it in. Would i have to find a car like the mustang 5.0 with the same engine or could i put it in any car. Please help

Thats a tough one. Most full size (by that i mean really big) lincoln, mercury or ford cars will take a 5.0, especially the older ones. It will not go into cars like the taurus, sable, contour, escort etc.

The switch would be tricky though. You have a EEC-IV fuel injection system which is OBD-I emissions. An older car (such as a torino or older mustang) would need all that junk with the engine to run well, unless you converted it to a carb and duraspark system.

If you wanted to stick with the fuel injection, at the very least you would have to switch out the truck intake and top end system, and put in place a car intake and top end because of hood clearance issues.

Basically you won't be able to just take the engine out and drop it right into a car. Things will have to changed around and tweaked. But they are good engines, and pretty versatile. So many companies make all kinds of conversion kits for all kinds of cars.
