backfires

Sounds like you may have one of the ignition wires on the wrong tower of the cap or the wrong plug. Double check your wires and make sure they are in the right order. If not then the ignition timing will be thrown off and will cause a back fire.

If you are sure you have the wires on right then check to make sure all vacuum lines are on and one wasn,t knocked lose. If there all good then there is a mechanical problem with the engine. Does the back fire happen all the time or only just sometimes. At idle or under acceleration.

At idle or under acceleration.[/quote:bb1f752728]it does it when it is warmed up at idle acceleration maybe i have the wrong gap on the sparkplugs i dont know i will go and check all of the vacuum hoses and let you know

I still get the feeling the backfiring is caused by an ignition problem. As far as the plugs go you may have a problem if they are not gapped correctly. You may want to pull the plugs and check them again. Also check how the wires are routed. If they cross each other the wires can pick up stray voltage from the other wires and cause a backfire.
