Hi:
First, if the brake light is starting to come on, make sure the brake fluid is full. As far as the engine, if you had an engine light coming on, there will be a code stored in the computer and scanning the computer will identify the problem. Most nationally recognized parts stores will scan it for free. As far as the MAP sensor, I question that. I am more inclined to believe it has something to do with the throttle position sensor or idle air control. Make sure there are no vacuum leaks and the carb or throttle body is tight.

Let me know what you find.

I had similar problem with my 91 bronco, it wouldn't pass emissions because it idled too high. I had already replaced the Throttle Position Sensor and that didn't fix it. Even though the code reader said Tps Sensor failure.. but then i replaced the O2 sensor and believe it or not that fixed the problem. Maybe try that? My O2 sensor was pretty easy to get to and i didn't need a special socket to remove it...Good Luck..
