Recently driving this Bronco when the engine suddenly turned off. I smelled distinct scent of electric/plastic burning. Smell was strongest in the driver seat. No noticible smells under the hood. Now it will crank but will not turn on. Any ideas?

So it turns out that it wasn't the ignition switch. Old one seemed fine but still replaced it just in case.

I did notice that the fuel pump does not kick in when the key is turned to the on position. Normally, I hear a high pitched whine from the back of the Bronco when I turn the key and before the car starts. That is not happening now even though the battery is fine and the engine does crank.

Any suggestions? Keep in mind that I am absolutely certain that the smell was electrical and inside the car when the Bronco turned off.
