My son has a 1991 fullsize Bronco with a 5.8 engine. When you put the truck in gear, there is a ticking noise, from the engine I think. This noise is present with it in gear and the brake depressed or at any speed. The truck does not need to be moving to hear the noise. When the truck is in park, you can rev the engine up to any RPM and there is no noise. There is a hole in the exhaust pipe beyond the exhaust manifolds and in the muffler. When I get under the truck, it almost sounds like it comes from the catalytic converter. Any ideas of what this might be?

Hi there,

Get a length of garden hose and use it as a stethoscope to listen to the exhaust manifold gaskets, you may have a leak at the exhaust port, this can sometimes sound like a ticking noise, That is a quick check to eliminate any exhaust problem first.
