My beloved 1989 Ford Bronco with the stock 302 EFI speed density engine and about 150K miles has been running fine and then now when I start it, it is a little harder to get started , but does start and then fast idles for 10 to 30 seconds and then just cuts out.. like someone pulled the plug on it! I can try and keep it going with the accelerator pedal but not for very long..it does this every time now.. I figured it was haveing trouble getting through the warm-up cycle, so I replaced the ECT with a new one, with absolutley no difference... before I go down the expensive road of replacing modules and dist.'s and IAC's etc.. I thought I might try and figure out what I was doing... this doesn't seem that tricky but I can't even get the truck to run to get it to the mechanicand I don't wan to dealwith a tow truck and all that... PLEASE HELP.. this is my daily driver!

Start with the basics, and work your way up, Last tune up was? Wires plugs ALL filters? If all that is ok, check for a stuck EGR, then test fuel pump pressure, If it won't restart, determine what's missing, the engine needs three things to run, Spark at all plugs, gas to all cylinders, and compression in all cylinders, tho an engine may run lacking one in one cylinder, it won't run very well! https://www.2carpros.com/car_repair_video/test_fuel_injection_pressure.htm Go here and checkout our video. https://www.2carpros.com/car_repair_video/test_engine_ignition_system.htm and this one! If chech engine light is on read the codes this way: Do this and count the flashes...Count the flashes, a 22 will flash as 2 flashes then a short pause, then 2 flashes, if more than one code is stored, the pause will be longer. The codes will display three times and end with 11 or 111. Write them down and post here. First do this with the ke on engine off, then again with it running.
