Factory starter recently broke so I replaced it with a new one. However after about a month or so I heard a grinding sound when I tried to start the car. So I pulled the starter and the housing had broke. There is no shim between the started and the engine block but there is a sheet of metal that is between the starter and the engine block and it looks like a shim but its part of the car. It seems to me like this sheet of metal may be the problem but I'm not sure. Should I add a shim in order to stop the grinding and the excessive torque on the starter?
