the 351w up until 1978 timing was 4 degrees before top dead center from 1979 up the engine is controlled by the electonic engine control that controls the timing, idle speed and mixture.

the sytem that it has is probably a tfi. it eliminates the conventional vacuum advance mechanism The module is mounted on the distributor base and can be identigfied by the part number information on the decal attached to the base. With it reving at 1500 rps . Try something and get some carb cleaner and clean the orface. If there is a bit of carbon buildup it would cause the car to trv higher than normali

so its done this since the new carb was put on. is the carb diferent than the one that was on there? If so try disconnecting the positive side of the battery and leave it off for a couple of minutes then reconnect. This should clear the information in the computer tfi. with most newer cars the car need to be deiven about 50 miles to completly reset all information. What kind of carb did you put on?

same carb, computer controled. and am pretty sure they did the pos dis, but i also did it. and same thing happens. i think i figured out the timing advance. went and unpluged a wire that had a disconnect and timeing went down. so i am asuming this is my timeing advance set the timeing at 10* and reconnected the wire and runs great. exept for the high idle. wich i can't figure out.
