1995 Aerostar V-6 only 29,000 miles: Had it overseas where I had to burn leaded fuel. Brought it back to the States and am having trouble (e.g., runs sluggish, hard to start). Thought about replacing catalytic converters, PCV, fuel filter, plugs. Do I need to do anything else? Local mechanic tried to sell me on a $3000 complete engine overhaul.

If this car has converters on it, someone modified the filler neck on the gas tank. The nozzle of a leaded fuel pump is 3 times the circumfrence of unleaded nozzles! If you successfully put leaded gas in an unleaded car, You must replace the converters...there is eiter nothing left in them or the are blocked solid! The effect of lead on the valves is something else again...You will have a ton of carbon build up in the engine! Now if you put new converters on the car and don't clean the engine, you will contaminte the new converters! Hope this answers you question? Do you gamble?
