Door Ajar indicator flashing and relay electrical rattle

1996 Ford Aerostar 3.0L 150K

While driving there is an intermittant electric rattle of the Door Ajar Replay. The Door Ajar indicator also flashes rapidly and sometimes stays on for a few minutes. Sometimes, but not always, the rattling seems to occur while running over bumps in the road. The relay responds correctly to open doors.

Pulled Fuse #6 which controls relay only to have the indicator stay on constantly; even with all doors closed.

Haynes Repair Manual does not have an electrical wiring diagram for the circuit involved. There does not seem to be any switch on the doors that will activate the relay. The only switch is for the dome light (manual door locks, manual windows, manual mirrors). The dome light switch will turn off the overhead lights just before the Door Ajar indicator turns off when any of the doors are closed slowly just before latching.

I've verified that the doors are grounded to the chassis. Experimenting seems to throw suspicion to the front passenger side door.

How does closing a door activate the relay? Short of a complete answer, can you direct me to an electrical wiring diagram that will include the Door Ajar indicator?

Thanks,

Nick

[quote:671c348b48="justanold"]..HELLO!
Thank You for the donation. that puts you at the head of the ever growing line. I have sent you some full size pics via your Email to aid you in understanding how the system works. because of your miles and the concern happening more on bumpy roads..i have to suspect that the sliding door needs a hinge adjustment. you can also "shine up" the four contacts on the door and door pillar. All doors are suspect but the sliding and hatchback doors are the most likely suspects.
Let Ras know that the pics came through and if you have any ??s. 8) 8) 8)[/quote:671c348b48]

if you could send me those diagrams as wel i would really appreciate it . i have what i have been calling the disco van effect for some time and i have narrowed it down to the rear hatch but i cant find a sensor back there , it must be located inside the door somewhere ... i can hear it click when i move the door ... thanks again Mike

I had a similar problem with my Aerostar. On the sliding door there are four contactors that seemed to have developed flat spots over time. I didnt want to spen much time or money so i used a piece of wire between the top and 3rd contactor to foll the door closed.
