Engine Performance problem
1997 Ford Aerostar 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

van has 38,000 on it...initicially engine sputtered, egine codes read misfires on 1 and 6 and camshaft sensor. I unplugged old sesor while running sputtering stopped, but still prompted engine light, this time quick hesitation when accelerating, but not sputtering. Now, replaced sensor, this time it took a dozen more starts to prompt engine light again. Now engine seems smooth, but has some sort of howling whistle when accelerating around 25mph..related? Engine code now only reads camshaft sensor cuircit malfunction, no misfires. And yes, engine light was reset each time. What is missing here......?

Hello nis_toy * Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit (camshaft sensor circuitry) * Check for continuity in the circuit wiring * Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor * Check the crankshaft position circuit as well * Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required * the PCM may be bad (camshaft drivers in the pcm)

(check your email for this diagram) The howling whistle when accelerating around 25mph could be caused by vacuum leak . Check all exhaust system ,hoses around the engine, Check for acid build up at the battery (that could make the alternator to work hard when trying to recharge the batt.) check for dirt grease at the deferential carrier(lack of lube could cause the gear to make such noise) check inner and outer cv joint boot (split boot could cause lack of lube at the joint)
