I have a 1989 Fort Taurus SHO with 96K miles. About 2 months ago, I had an episode where the car lost power and jerked, then it stalled on the highway and would not restart. It started as if normal after about 1 hour (while I was waiting for a tow) The mechanic checked the gas filter and said it was fine and replaced the spark plug wires. About 1 week ago this recurred.n Both episodes happened on a low tank. Today it happened again on a full tank but restarted after five minutes. Between these episodes, the car has been running well. I replaced the fuel pump about 4 years ago.
