The firing order is in a manual and sometimes cast on intake if cast aluminum. But if plastic I will send it in picture. There are two different VIN numbers for plug wire placement. See pictures.

I just bought this vehicle (Sport model). The truck has a miss in it. It will start right up, but idles rough. The truck has sit up for 2 years. I replaced the coil, and the fuel pump. The wires look new, and the only thing I can think of, is the firing order is off, or the plugs maybe bad from sitting. I would appreciate any input. Thanks. Randy.

Good afternoon,

Yes, I would replace the plugs but at the same time, do a compression test to be sure the valves are all working.

Engine Performance problem 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 178k miles

I paid a guy to tune up my explorer. which he ripped me off. instead of putting the brand new plug wires on that I bought for my explorer, he put used plug wires from a completely different vehicle on, and did not get the firing order correct. I now have the correct plug wires, but I don't know the correct firing order. My Explorer has a 4.0l SOHC V6 engin.

Ah, no such thing as a dumb question. In fact, this is a really good question, hehe. I think the picture below will help you out. Just in case you can't see the writing on the wires, the 3 wires on the left of the picture are 1 (starting at front where hand is) , 2 and 3. The wires on the right side of picture are 5 (starting at the front again) , 6 then 4.

think you. I hope it does. The engine is miss firing on cylinders 2,3,4,5,and 6. The truck has no power and is dranking gas like its going out of style. If this doesn't work I'm going to have a compression test done. Then I've gotta find where I'm losing coolant. its not leaking under the truck and its not in my floorboard, but I'm dumping 2 gallons every 4 days into the radiator.

Coolant leaking with no signs huh. You may want to check out your oil level. Is it milky looking? Over filled ? I believe you may have a blown head gasket or manifold gasket. This will let coolant into the combustion chambers and cause misfireing. It will also cause the coolant to leak without a noticeable sign (drips, wet spots ..) . Sounds like you should go ahead and get it pressure tested. May also be a cracked head, but this will usually result in smoke as well.

My problem is, she Idles rough after starting especially when I put her in gear or turn the AC on. I smell raw fuel and I suspect that the firing order is off. Not quite sure.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

I have attached a picture for you to follow. Additionally, picture two is for routing the plug wires. Make sure to follow it. The wires melt from the heat of the exhaust manifolds if not routed correctly. Note: The arrow in the first picture is pointing toward the front of the vehicle.

Let me know if this helps or of you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

i just replaced the plugs and wires. the proper spacing was 0.54 all 6 are exactly the same. brand new wires just bought today. the problem is the engine wont turn over for more than a few seconds. the engine jumps and shakes. i think it might be the distributor cap, but before i spend the money if its not that i would like a second opinion.
