what is wrong with my car?

Hi all, im new here :-)

My car has just lost its 'umf'. Whenever I put the acceletator to the floor the engine goes flying (as it should do) but the car doesn't. I now have to be accelerate very carefully so not to make the engine go crazy. Any ideas what this could be??
