i had put together a 77 chevy and had began to put on the hood but its all crooked its straight on one side and a half inch on the other side could it be the hood springs?

no, make sure the fender is set correctly. you have slots on the hinges for moving around the hood. try several ways to see. if not then there is frame damage not allowing the hood to line up
