Hi. My car listed above is a 420d. I accidentally filled 1-liter extra engine oil. It was supposed to be 5 liters but now it has 6 liters. Will this damage my engine? What should I do? Should I not start the engine at all? I have driven 60kms after over filling. I smelled gas burning inside the car.

Hi,

I would recommend removing the extra oil. This model isn't offered in the US, so I have no info in my manuals.

I would assume this has an internal oil filter. If that is the case, chances are you won't be able to get much from removing the filter and draining the housing. Also, I assume there is no dipstick to check the oil but rather it is done electronically, so that means we can't draw it out through the dipstick. That leaves removing the drain plug and when about 1 liter is removed, plug it. If you do this, make sure the engine is cold. Then, go through the level testing.

I wish I had a better answer, but with the way they build vehicles today, it is nearly impossible to get around things like this.

Let me know if that helps. Also, it should be removed.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you for your quick response. Yes, it is done electronically. Is it safe to drive the car to a mechanic like 3 miles to get excess oil removed?

Thank you.

Hi,

It should be okay to go that distance but run it easy and I would go much further. We don't need to damage other things.

If you have a chance, let me know if everything goes well for you.

Take care,

Joe
