had bank 1 sensor 2 (high), changed rear 02 sensor, ran for two three days, coded the 441 and 137. cleared them, ran two days reappeared with the 420 as additional i just started the motor rolled it up on ramps, go it to operating temperature front of cat was 200-225F , at the rear sensor the temp on the side of the cat was about the same but on top was 300F. I've picked up about 1-2 MPG since o2 change.

Hi,

There should be a difference between the inlet and outlet of about 30 to 100 degrees F. If it is the same, the converter isn't working properly.

Take a look at this link:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-a-catalytic-converter

The difference at the top is odd. It could be due to air restrictions to cool it based on its physical location.

The P0420 indicates the catalytic converter is operating below the threshold. So, you may simply have a faulty catalytic converter. Did the other two codes return? By any chance, is there an exhaust leak before the catalytic converter?

Let me know. Also, review the aforementioned link and let me know your thoughts.

Take care,

joe
