Exhaust manifold removal

I have the car listed above Cobra with the 4.6 dohc that has a leaking exhaust manifold gasket on the driver side. The car also has a tubular k member. I was wondering if I could get the manifold off my removing the driver side tire and fender well plastic cover to get to the bolts. The reason I ask is I don't have a lift and local shops are quoting me $450.00 per side if I do both. I am just trying find an easy way of doing it without having a lift.

Good morning,

No, there is no simple way to get it out without a lift.

You will need to put it on jack stands high enough to get the exhaust system down and out. You will also need to jack up the motor off its mounts to get the manifold to release.

The book pays 5 hours in a shop with a lift. I would double the time for doing it at home.

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove engine compartment brace from front fender aprons and dash panel.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Remove dual converter Y pipe.
5. Disconnect steering shaft from steering gear.
6. Disconnect EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube.
7. Remove oil bypass filter.
8. Loosen the RH motor mount to sub-frame retaining nut.
9. Remove the LH motor mount to sub-frame retaining nut.
10. Raise engine approximately 38 mm (1.5 inch) using a safety stand and block of wood positioned under crankshaft pulley.

11. Remove eight nuts retaining exhaust manifold to cylinder head and remove RH exhaust manifold and exhaust manifold gasket.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean mating surfaces of exhaust manifold and cylinder head.
2. Position exhaust manifold gasket and LH exhaust manifold to cylinder head and studs.
