A rattle started like a month ago and left it be thinking the heat shield just came loose and when I went to look the heat shield was fine, but the rattle worsened so bad the rubber hangers broke.

Hi,

A rattle shouldn't have caused the rubber hanger to fail. Check to see if the hanger is allowing something to vibrate. Also, it could be the internal portion of the catalytic converter. Take a rubber mallet and tap on the exhaust. See if you can locate where the sound is coming from.

Let me know.

Well, the rubber hangers didn’t like to break they just stretched but I think the catalytic converter is clogged up.

Hi,

Okay, that makes sense. As far as the converter is concerned, if it is clogged, you will experience a power loss when driving. Were you able to try using a rubber mallet to see if you could locate where the noise comes from?

Also, take a look at this link and let me know if it helps:

Yeah, it’s most definitely the catalytic converter but I'm going to remove it and try to clean it out.

Okay, if the catalyst material has broken it will make the rattle noise. Here is how to remove it for repairs, I would search ebay for a used one so you don't end up with a check engine light on. Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response of any problems so we can see what to help you with.
