Oil consumption comes from either an external leak or internal burning.
If the rings are worn, it will allow oil into the combustion chamber and will burn off.
A compression test will confirm. It is a two step process. You do a cranking test first. Then retest it but this time add a small amount of oil into the cylinder and see if there is a difference. If there is more than 10 to 15 lbs, then the rings are your failure.
