I am fairly new to the automotive mechanics world and I am learning as I go. Today I got a check engine light and plugged in my tuner to see what the code was, it read "P0456 EVAP leak detected (very small EVAP leak)".
A few days back I did a curb check, and when I came off the car hit the curb on the vapor canister, causing some of the housing to break off. The canister is now partially hanging off the bottom of the car. I have found the part I need on a few different websites and calling shops, however it is only the complete assembly and not the housing alone. I have contacted a few places including Ford and Summit Racing about if I was able to get the housing alone (I have not heard back yet, I did ask today), Ford is wanting $260.00 while Summit is wanting $150.00 for the entire assembly.
My question is, could this be the cause of the code either from the impact or it potentially scraping afterwords? If so what would be the recommended fix? I have already checked the hoses to it. Also, what could other causes for this code be in case this is not the problem or for future reference?
