EVAP codes P0455 P0442 leak detected. Replaced gas cap, replaced purge solenoid, smoke machine showed smoke at base of LDP fresh air filter. No other smoke noticed. Any advice would help. It was suggested I replace the EVAP vent valve but I cannot find this valve through any of the lines.

Thanks!

Hello,

A vent valve should not cause a leak unless the hose going to it is off or has a hole in it. I would visually go over the system to see if you find any hoses that are cracked or have fallen off. If everything looks okay I would replace the charcoal canister.

Below is a guide to help you see how the system works.

Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Cheers, Ken

Replaced canister, still get codes P0455 P0442. Checked all hoses and found nothing cracked or loose. Smoke machine shows smoke at the fresh air vent connected to the leak detection pump (LDP). I think this may be normal (or understandable) because it is a vent tube for the pump, but perhaps the port should be a kind of one-way valve? Air gets taken in but not let out to keep the system pressurized? I think I may have a bad pump then? Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

Smoke should not come out of the system at all it is closed. When you say leak detection pump I do not see it in the diagram above. Can you take a picture and upload it so I can see what you are talking about?

Smoke shows coming through the air filter connected to the pump. I believe #18 in your diagram (breather). #3 in my picture. I agree that the system should be closed.

Good find on the diagram I would say the pump is bad but I think I would try to get a used unit because they don't go out that often.
