Code p0455 and p0441, Evap failure cannot pass smog?

I fixed a leak from a hose connected to the secondary air pump seems to have helped my fuel trims, I think. I smoked the system from the Evap hose in the front next to the fuel line and saw smoke come out of the right rear well. I took off the well cover and smoke was coming out of the leak detection pump filter with the car off. No other signs of smoke coming from anywhere else. Isn’t this system supposed to be closed off until activated? I removed the filter and plugged it with a rubber plug, smoked again, no smoke coming from anywhere else. I removed the smoke machine hose and plug, and it sounded like a lot of pressure was being released.
