My truck used to hold pressure awhile back syphon gas out of my truck and I got gas out it was slow with a quarter inch clear hose .I'm not sure if that had anything to do with problem I'm having. but since I have owed the truck it has been hard to put gas in. I have had it pass smog with it being hard to fill and it seems to hold pressure. when I do smoke test I built one it makes a lot of smoke. I did test and found nothing. i activated the vent solenoid and I checked the gas cap and took it off and smoke was present and deactivated vent solenoid and smoke comes out and it seems to hold pressure. now I'm going to drive it and see if it will take gas like it is supposed to. I haven't replaced fill neck I know it needs to have drive cycles on it so maybe it's fixed. As much time and effort I have put into it I don't feel like I fixed it because I still have all original equipment. If you have any ideas or help please it would be most helpful. I went to junkyard for purge and vent solenoid.
But put mine back on the other one from junk yard wouldn't hold vacuum purge so I put mine back on. could by unhooking and hooking up make mine start working again.

Good afternoon,

You do not have to start a new question each time. You can continue on the same thread for replies. I am asking the admin to merge all you questions together for this one.

Do not use used parts. Never a good idea. Go to rock auto.com and they are not that expensive at all.

No, not at all. No worries.

Check the purge valve as I suggested a few posts back.

Good morning,

No, it is only activated when the system checks itself for leaks.

You can check it by removing the electrical connector, remove the hose that goes to the fuel tank. Start the car and put your finger over the port that goes back to the tank. If you feel vacuum, the valve is bad.

A while back I used a quarter in clear plastic ice maker line to syphon gas out of my truck it was hard and slow but I was able to get gas out.could I have damaged anything that would through code po442? my truck gas cap was always under pressure before than I'm no sure if that is when it started another thing I built my own smoke machine and I still can't find leak and I checked I get smoke when take gas cap off and when I turn vent solenoid on smoke is there another thing the truck takes forever to put gas in it's always clicking at the pump what can that be the problem that is one of the few things I haven't replaced and the evap seems to hold air now will drive it and get gas and see if it will take gas normally. If you have any more help on subject it would be most valuable.

What are the results of the check for the purge valve?

As far as the slow fill, that comes from the vent valve stuck closed not allow air to exit to air when fueling. I attached the procedure and the location for you below.

Good morning,

The small leak is a tough one to find. I would use a smoke machine to test. You will need to close the vent solenoid in order to run the test. Look for any smoke at connections, the canister, the fuel tank or the lines.

In most cases it is the purge solenoid that is the issue.

Hi,

The EVAP service port is located in the EVAP purge pipe between the EVAP purge solenoid and the EVAP canister. The service port is identified by a green-colored cap.

Check the max pressure which should be listed on or near the port. I believe it is 1 PSI.

As far as what it could be, it could be anything. When you have a small leak, the best thing to do is what you are doing. You could have a cracked vacuum hose, something dry-rotted, and so on. I've even seen a small amount of rust on the fuel filler where the gas cap mounts cause it.

Try the smoke test and let me know what you find. Also, in the attached pic, I highlighted the service port.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

You should have what is called the EVAP service port which is what you will need to use. Please see the attached information for code and the service port.

Please let me know what questions you have with this and we can go from there. Thanks

It seems to be holding pressure now. I drove truck to gas station and I didn't have any problems putting gas in but when I got back now it throws a po442 purge vcv circuit. I tested purge solenoid with wire plug not connected and truck running there's no vacuum at port do I need to replace purge solenoid and did activating the vent valve so many times get it working again or should I replace it too before it stops working again?

Okay, good.

When the cent was commanded did it open and close? A lot of times the solenoid will work but the valve will not open.

If your talking vent I just jumped the wires one thing that really confuses me is says the service port goes to charcoal canister not gas tank in my chilton.

The vent is t the back of the truck on the frame. If the purge in the front passed the test, the vent is next.

You would need to apply voltage to the vent solenoid manually if you do not have a scan tool that can do this. Make sure the valve opens and closes.

I attached the flow chart for the 443 code below. I also attached a wiring diagram of the vent solenoid and the purge valve for you.
