carrier bearing?

Hi,

First, a bearing will usually make a howling noise when moving. Most times, a bad u-joint will cause a vibration or banging sound when you shift into gear.

As far as a carrier bearing, you are more likely to heat it. Also, not always, but most times there will be a leak at the differential seal where the drive shaft and carrier connect.

The differential is on the other end. do you mean where the shaft of small driveshaft meets transmission?

We are thinking of two different things. The carrier bearing I'm referring to is in the differential. Are you referring to the output shaft on the transmission where it connects to the driveshaft? Is there any trans fluid leaking from the seal?

I read my first post again. I meant to say you will usually hear (not heat) a bearing problem. They usually make a howling sound.

My truck makes a low pitch noise more noticeable sound wise at lower speeds when I take my foot off the gas it goes away and it seems like a loss just a little bit of horse power. no clanking noise or vibration.

I have a4.3ls and 2 piece driveshaft.

I have a4.3ls and 2piec drive shaf.

If there are no clanking or vibrations, chances are it isn't a universal joint. As far as the center support bearing, is there any up and down or side to side play?

Yes I can push it up. It's resting on the bottom rubber the bearing and has about a half inch gap at top.

And do you have step by step instructions? unless it is something else.

Other than center bearing.can I jack rear off ground and run truck and see where noise is coming from?

Is there any chance it is transmission mount? it looks like a little separation between the rubber and metal on mount.

It certainly can be a transmission or motor mount. Can you upload pics of what you are seeing? Also which directions do you need?

As far as lifting the rear to check where the sound is coming from, just make sure it is safely lifted. I wouldn't recommend getting under it for inspection.
