Hi, I recently saw a thread about a Toyota that was throwing out codes relating to the EVAP system failure. An expert said the problem could stem from overfilling the fuel tank causing the canister filter to become filled with gas.

My question is, will the fuel drain out of the canister filter as the amount of fuel in the gas tank gets lower or does the filter have to drain manually somehow?

My car, listed above, is throwing out 5 codes (P2419, P043E, P043F, P2401, P2402) also here's a video of the scan:

I saw an expert recommend starting with a new gas cap. My current gas cap seems to fit snugly, but long ago the tether broke and I've dropped it a lot so maybe it's been damaged). Anyways I plan to start with a new cap, clear the codes and only fill up half a tank at a time for a couple weeks to give the fuel a chance to drain out.

Any insight or advice with this problem is appreciated, thanks!

This sometime happens and these codes when the EVAP purge control solenoid stops working. Also, check the vacuum line going to and leaving from the solenoid here is the location so you can check it out. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is. If you find something clear the codes to see if it comes back.

Hi Ken, thanks for the fast response. Can you also tell me how I can tell if the solenoid is working properly? Also, I assume that to check the vacuum hoses I'm looking for holes or tears in the lines? Thanks for your help!

Also, I should mention that there are no issues with rough idle, or any other noticeable problems with the car. The check engine light had been on for almost a year. When it first came on, I took it to my mechanic who told me it wasn't anything to worry about. Since that time, I've become more interested in cars so that's why I'm trying to diagnose and fix it myself.

Good job, yes remove the solenoid and supply it with 12 volts and a ground and the solenoid should click, if not it is bad.
