EVAP code for a small leak

I payed for a smoke test and they told me they couldn't find any smoke from a leak but strongly smelled gas and said it was from the top of the fuel pump and I should replace it. I have flex-fuel so fuel pumps aren't cheap, especially since mine is functioning fine. Is there something else I can do rather then replace the whole unit?

Hello,

The fuel pump on your vehicle is held in place with a lock ring that goes on top of the fuel pump and pushes and holds it in the fuel tank. There is a gasket that goes under the lock ring and seals the fuel tank. It is possible that this gasket has failed, and that is why there is a strong fuel odor. This would also account for your small EVAP leak. In the diagrams below I have included instructions for the removal and installation the fuel pump for your vehicle. Just use the parts for removal and installation of the lock ring with a new gasket of course. Please get back to us with what you find out.
