Error code P0700

The 700 is a general transmission code that means there is a fault in the system. There is usually another code associated with this code.

How long since you change the fluid and filter?

There was a U0101 and I believe a p1603. Honestly, I don’t think the fluid or filter has been changed. Computer had been changed twice and I keep getting the p0700 after awhile. It’s very consistent now.

Okay, the 1603 is for an internal failure for the engine ECM. If that is what you replaced, they fail for a reason. In most cases, a shorted solenoid somewhere or wire harness issue is the reason.

So do I need to replace it again or worry more about the P0700?
Did the p0700 cause the ECM failure?

No, as I stated in the beginning, the 700 is a general transmission code that indicates another failure. It is an information code only.

What part did you replace and where was it? Can you upload a picture of the part?

So far I have only replaced the ECM/PCM (the main computer) I’ve actually changed it three times. They are rebuilt/reprogrammed computers.

Okay, the chances of getting 2 bad units is nill.

There is something causing them to fail. You need to find out what is causing them to fail.

Are there instructions in the box for doing wiring checks before installing?

The PCM should have come in a box with instructions on what to check before installation to be sure something does not short out the PCM. that's what is happening with your units.

Nope, to the best of my recollection, it was just the computer.

When you get the replacement from wherever you ordered it, ask them for the check sheet for making sure there are no shorted solenoids.

Okay. Should I even replace the transmission relay or just wait? Is my computer officially ruined then?

The code indicates an internal failure so yes, it is bad.

I would not replace until you get the checklist. Otherwise, you will fail the new one.

Just had codes reread. Now p0700 and p0882. Does that change anything as far as what to do to fix the problem?

Is this with the new or old PCM?

I attached a wiring diagram for you. Check for powers to the PCM on all the highlighted wires.

This is with a new PCM. I have had to replace two within a year.
