When starting the engine warning light turns on and sometimes it does not turn off?

Whenever I start the car engine the warning light comes on. Sometimes it goes off by itself, other times it stays on. The car starts but I can't drive it.
I was advised to replace it with a new battery, but I just want to be sure before I buy a new battery.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Hello Raj,

Does the car start on its own battery, no jump start required?
If so, then it would be unlikely that the battery is causing your issue.

As the engine warning light is on there will be fault codes stored in either ECM or TCM
I would suggest first carrying out a CAN scan using suitable diagnostic equipment.
Once done please post the fault codes on our site for further evaluation
