engine vibration?

Hi,

If there are no codes, it leads me to question things such as engine or transmission mounts, CV joints and so on.

Where is the vibration most noticeable? For example, do you feel it more in the steering wheel, the seat, or the floor? Also, do you only feel it when the vehicle is in gear and accelerating?

Let me know. Since there are no codes, I'm leaning away from a misfire or sensor-related issue.

Hi Joe, thank you for your response. The car vibration is felt in the seat and in the dash, it does it in park, neutral and drive. Also, when the hood is open you can see the engine vibrate, it's not a big vibration. It's been doing this for the last 4 months and it hasn't got any worse, but I'm worried it would harm something, plus it's annoying knowing it's there. I cleaned the throttle body, the MAF, changed the purge sensor, and changed the air filter.

It could be a mount, but I want you to try something for me. Start the engine and let it idle. Turn the A/C on and pay attention to the idle speed. Does it drop, stay the same, increase?

My A/C won't kick in until the outside temperature is above 40 degrees. I'll let you know when it does. Why would the A/C be relevant to the vibration?

Good question. I asked because the added load may result in feeling the vibration at idle. If that is the case, my first suspect would be a mount issue.

Okay, that is a good thing. At this point, I would suggest inspecting the engine mounts for evidence of cracks, dry rot, or damage.

Thanks for your help, Joe. I'll take the car in and have the mechanic look at the mounts. The biggest mystery to me was why does the vibration only happen between 1, 000 RPMs to 1,500 RPMs and run smooth as silk before and after.

That simply could be the point where the vibration is bad enough to be felt. If you told me the check engine light was staying on, I would suspect a misfire or other engine-related issue. In this case, it must be a mount, or I guess it could be a balance issue with an axle/CV joint or something similar, but I feel that is less likely.
