My car is listed above with a 6 speed manual transmission it is bad to the bone. My problem started when I tried to start it one morning and it wouldn't turn over. After wondering if broke something inside the motor. I figured out it only turns over halfway. So I said time has come to upgrade to a stronger engine. My friend has a 745AI it's a 2003 can I put a 2003 engine in my 2000 540i that is a 6 speed manual transmission. What will I need to do? What do I need to change? Will it fit?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

I have to be honest, I wouldn't do it. I'm not saying it can't be done, but this project will become a nightmare. The thing is, there isn't a thing that won't need replaced. Wiring, vacuum harnesses, computers, exhaust, and so on.

This isn't something I can really help with because not being there requires me to use manuals as references. This won't be available.

I wish I could help more, but anytime major changes like this are suggested, I just don't have the resources without being there to recommend it. I hope you understand.

Please feel free to let me know if you have more questions.

Take care,
Joe

Thanks, I really appreciate your honesty. And I do understand. I feel the same way. Except I have the entire car 745Ai so all the parts I should need are at my finger tips. But it wouldn't be a easy swap. I would have my work cut out for me.

Welcome back:

I understand. Just make sure you really thing things through before you start so you don't run into trouble.

If you do it and have questions, I'll try my best to help, but remember this isn't something I can look up in a manual if needed. With that, things can become a hit and miss situation.

Take care of yourself,

Joe
