I've been driving the vehicle listed above (which is a Mitsubishi Montero with a Dodge badge) for 8 years. The car has been regularly worked on and I've kept it running great. But over the weekend the engine started doing the deep rattle and it's done. This happened because I drove it up into the mountains, and traffic was really bad, so it was start-stop-start in 1st and 2nd gear at altitude. It appears to be impossible to find this engine remanufactured, so I'm wondering what engines can be swapped in for this one. I've heard there are others, so I hope to find the right one.
Engine info:
6g72
3.0L
V6
fuel injected.

The 1989 Dodge Raider with a 6G72 3.0L V6 engine is actually very similar to the Mitsubishi Montero and Dodge Ram 50 trucks of the same era, which also used the same 6G72 engine. As a result, there may be some engine swap options available that are compatible with your Dodge Raider.

One potential option would be to look for a used engine from a Mitsubishi Montero or Dodge Ram 50 that has the same 6G72 engine. These engines may be easier to find than a remanufactured engine specifically for the Dodge Raider.

Another option would be to consider swapping a different engine altogether. Some compatible engine options could include the 6G74 engine (found in later model Mitsubishi Monteros and other vehicles), or a 3.5L V6 engine (such as the 6G74 from a later Montero or a 3.5L engine from a Dodge Intrepid). However, these swaps would require more extensive modifications to the engine and the vehicle's electronics, so be ready for that.

Thank you, Ken. Yes, I know that it is a Montero - I wrote that at the beginning of my question. So, I have been searching for a Montero or compatible engine. I appreciate your adding that the compatible engines would require more extensive modifications. I'm not sure I will want to go that route, so it's great to know. Thank you!
