A mechanic swaped a 1.4 turbo engine out of a 2013 Chevy Cruze and installed a 1.8 non turbo. can this setup work and can the ECU be programmed to work with the 1.8?

Good morning,

No, you need the ECM for the 1.8 and also the harness. The harness is different as well.

Does the car run?

Yes, the harness and fuse box was changed, but when we hook up 1.8 ECU it doesn't power on with engine light but if we connect the 1.4 ecu it powers on.

The 1.4 was programmed to your car.

The 1.8 is not and must be programmed to your car in order to work.

That needs to be done by a shop that can do programming or a dealer.

It depends. Some ECM will not take a reprogram when one is already installed. Some of them do.

I have had both situations. I always recommend replacing with rebuilt or new but economics get in the way and I understand that.

The simple answer is yes, but remember, it may not work depending on how it is programmed.
