Hello,
Both the 2001 and 2002 Montero uses the same 3.5L V6.
So as long as both of the vehicles have the 3.5L (not the 3.0 Montero Sport), it will work.
I have attached the engine replacement steps below for your reference.

Hi,
The 3.0 is different in several ways. Can it be done, anything is possible. However, you will need to change computers, wiring harnesses, engine mounts, (and trans I believe the bolt pattern is different) vacuum hoses, and anything you can think of.
