Oil light came on , checked oil was at the full level, oil mileage was at 3,000 miles , changed oil & filter (Castrol 5w-#30 & ac /del co PH48 ) , car ran fine ,reset oil life ,4 days later light come on again, would like to find the location of the sending unit to troubleshoot it/ replace it.

Just so you're clear, the warning light refers to oil pressure, not level. The sending unit is usually near the oil filter. Professionals would check the actual pressure with a mechanical gauge first, then replace the sending unit if the pressure was fine. Since most people don't have a pressure gauge, and since sending units aren't very expensive, buy the new one, then you'll know what you're looking for. If the light still turns on while you're driving, have the pressure checked by a mechanic, or you should be able to borrow a pressure gauge from an auto parts store that rents or borrows tools. The hose for the gauge screws into the same port as the sending unit is in.

The switch is behind the alternator mounted on the engine block. See pic attached.

While driving yesterday my car died in the middle of the highway. The battery light and the oil light quickly flashed before it died (they were not lit previously and I just had my oil changed.) I don't think it was my battery because the lights, radio and windsheild wiper were still working when the car died. I had it towed and I'm just looking for a list of possibilities before talking with my mechanic - haven't had the best experiences taking my car to the shop.. 2005 Chevy Classic.

check your oil first, if there isn't any in it go back to where they changed the oil and have them pay to fix your car. if there is oil in it have apro look at it because it could be a fuel pump, or engine problem.

Hi there,

over filling the engine with oil is not normally a real problem, if the check light is on, you will need a scan to determine the problem, go to a private work shop and get this done, first, also have the oil level corrected as if it is excessively over full you can have problems.

My 2003 chevy malibu won't start. It registers low fuel, but there is a half a tank or better in there. I tried resetting the theft system, but that didn't help. Also the battery light, and oil light are not coming on when its in the acc or on position. My husband also recently replaced our car battery. Any ideas what it could be?

Is the security light on?Do you power door locks and keyless entry work if you have them?Is the starter turning the engine over?Did you make sure the battery cables are clean and tight?Did you have the battery tested even though it was recently replaced doesnt mean its good.

your oil sending unit may be going bad because after it warms up its going off so when the motor is cold it takes a minute or two to read your oil level then it reads fine so the sensor maybe going bad

The body control module controls the body electrics gauges security lights door locks keyless entry shifter solenoid etc.Without some kind of scanner its going to be hard to diagnose this one.Especially a scanner that can read bcm codes pass lock data etc.You may have to bite the bullet and take it in to have it looked at.

After a crank, bearing and oil pump replacement my cars oil pressure light comes on at idle. I have found an oil change method that eliminates it but I am not sure its safe, I simply use a can of Restore with all my oil changes and it never comes on. But the mechanic that did the crank replacement said that it was probably because my cam lobes were worn. Is it safe to assume I need a new camshaft?

I'm guessing he didn't do his job right. Doing a crank job requires special procedures. Who knows-could be excessive bearings/worn journals/unprimed oil pump and my list goes on.

Get another mechanic to rediagnose it and get rid of the partsman.

First have the oil pressure tested with a master gauge, this will give a true indication as to the oil pressure. Get the readings before spending any more money, your mechanic should have mentioned that this could happen before doing only 1/2 the job. The cam lobes will have no direct or indirect bearing on oil pressure, bearing journals and cam bearings will.

Daugher has a 1997 Chevy Malibu. Replaced the battery and the altenator within last 3 weeks. A week ago my daughter said her car just died on her while driving. When my husband and I went to go start it ( several hours Later) it started fine. We drove it about 1 mile to the repair shop. Service Man had the car 2 days and said he started it up at least 4 times with no problems. Had him change the oil since it was time. My daughter picked up the car drove it about 1 mile and at the stop sign, the oil light went on. Proceeded through the stop sign and oil light went out. IT did it one more time while she drove about 1 more mile. Stopped the car at work and left it there 5 hours. Started it up and drove maybe 1/2 mile and car died. Started up and it drove 500 feet and died. kept doing that till we got it to the station ( about 1/2 a mile ) finally it would hardly move once we got it started and it would just chug. Had to floor it with gas to get it to start and it would just chug, move about 100 feet and die. The check engine light, oil light, battery light all kept coming on. ANy ideas????/
