Hi,

More specifically, the code indicates camshaft A is retarded at start up. Most commonly, this is going to be an issue with either a VVT actuator or VVT timing solenoid. However, it could be a timing issue as well.

Keep in mind, the VVT is controlled by engine oil. If you are hearing a lot of noise, I suspect the solenoid was starved of oil due to dirt or extremely low oil.

I attached a pic below showing the actuators. Start by removing and inspecting them. Also, inspect the timing chain for wear.

Let me know.

Joe

So, the front ones are the actuators, where are the solenoids?

The solenoids are behind those. That is an actuator, the solenoid is at the cam.

Hi,

To the best of my knowledge, it is. Are you worried about it jumping time? If so, pull the spark plugs, take a borescope, and check in each cylinder for evidence of damage.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

I removed the actuator, visually looks good. But when i put it back and left it unplugged the car started better and stayed on longer. I was able to get a better video of the noise.

Hi,

I listened to the video. Have you checked the timing? It sounded off when cranking.

Let me know.

That's my fear. Could we be hearing internal interference?
