I recently replaced my spark plugs and wires. However, my car is now misfiring when I have it in drive and I am stopped at a stoplight or stop sign. No problem going down the highway or interstate. Only when I am idling.

have your idle air control valve tested and replaced if necessary, listen, everytime something goes wrong with a car the first thing an idiot says is; "you need a tune up" well thats not the problem all the time, have your IAC tested and we'll take it from there. It is possible you need a tune up but it could be a fuel injector as well we should run the codes to see what's going on first.

I've been told that it may be the coil pack. Where is it located and is it difficult to replace?

scan for codes and check fuel pressure first before replacing any part.

I've already scanned for the codes. They are Po301 and Po316.

both of the codes relate to the same thing, check cam position sensor, stuck open EGR valve, or blocked EGR passages. also check fuel pressure. fuel pressure should be 26-45 psi key on engine running

2003 Ford Taurus is missing and going below 1 RPM while in drive, esp. with AC on. It vibrates a little like it is wanting to stall. The emissions light came on which explains nothing. Car is full of gas. Had car one week - please help!

Check engine light on may not mean a thing to you but its telling that you have a problem you need to scan it for codes that will identify and or point you to the troubled area is it due for tune up you may wants to check that check for a vacuum leaks too. These guides will help us fix it.

I have an 03 Taurus showing a PO103 and PO316 trouble code stored. The 103 is a missfire on cyl 3, the316 is a missfire below 1000 revs. What is the likely cause of these codes? How do I correct?

O.K. P0103 is MAF signal high most likely due to blockage clean MAF P0316 is missfire first 1K Use freeze frame to ID cylinder most likely MAF is causing miss so try cleaning clear codes drive see what resets.

My bad...it was not a PO103, but rather a PO303, and the 316 code was correctly...the 303 indicates a cyl 3 missfire, 316 is missfire below 1000 revs...so how should I proceed?

yes..as a matter of fact, you can rarely feel the misfire. Will check compression and try cleaner, should I re-set the code...am try ing to get inspected to tag the car.

Hi srhilai,

P0316 is actually for misfire on cylinder # 6.

For this model, it is different from others as P0316 is a Continous Memory DTC. Items to check would be :

1. Camshaft Position Sensor.
2. Low fuel, kless than 1/8 tank.
3. Stuck open EGR valve
4. Blocked EGR passages.

I found the port 3 of the coil pack on my 2003 ford taurus was bad.

After replacing the coil pack the problem went away.

I also replaced the spark plugs and wire before replacing the coil pack without any results.

The most common suspect is a simple engine misfire due to worn spark plugs and wires. Ford has also had more than their share of failing ignition coils.

The place to start is by having the diagnostic fault codes read and recorded. The people at many auto parts stores will do that for you for free. If the code relates to a misfire, the code number will indicate which cylinder is responsible, but it will not say why. Be aware that fault codes only indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis, or the unacceptable operating condition. They never say to replace parts or that one is bad. They may try to sell you parts at the part store, but they will only be right about half of the time. First your mechanic will rule out wiring, connector terminal, and other problems before suspecting a part that might be referenced in a fault code.

code numbers never identify bad parts just failed systems.

the coil is the most common failure for the first 1000 code. plugs and wires would be a good start.
