I’ve pulled the code after my engine light came on, P0131, 02 sensor circuit low voltage bank one sensor. Took it to Christian Brothers and they got the same diagnosis and said it was my secondary sensor and that my catalytic converter was clogged and I needed a new catalytic converter with a quoted price of over $1,800.00. Am I delusional or are they trying to mess with me? That code is for the primary sensor before it even gets to the catalytic converter right? I have no idea how they came to that conclusion but wanted to get some feedback before I go talk to them.

Thank you,

Susan

Hello,

The code P0131 does refer to the O2 sensor before the catalytic converter. Unless it is providing with other codes, this does not point at a bad catalytic converter. Did is say bank 1 sensor 1?

Here is a helpful video of trouble codes:

Here is a video shows how to replace O2 sensor:

I have also attached some diagnostic and replacement procedure.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you.

Yes, bank one sensor one. I just had both sensors replaced two years ago so I would hope they wouldn’t have gone bad. I’ve heard they’re supposed to last at least 100,000 miles or even a lifetime. I guess it could still be sensor or it could just be a loose wire or a hose. Thank you for all your advice and the article and video.

You're welcome!
Those sensors should last several years. But then again it depends on the driving conditions.
If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.
Thanks.
