I need to say/ask my local machine shop?

I just got done watching your YouTube playlist on the 5.3 lm7 rebuild. I specifically need help on this video “How to Build a 5.3L LS LM7 V8 - Part 3: Removing Rotating Assembly and Machine Shop Preparation!” I'm having trouble understanding everything I need to say/ask my local machine shop. If you could list out the correct questions to ask that would be great! Also concerning the crankshaft, I saw another video a while ago where they went in and had to “re-balance” the crankshaft, is this something that is needed to do or not? (I’m wanting to run forged pistons). Thanks so much! This playlist has helped my confidence to rebuild an engine and to buy my 5.3 lm7. I want to rebuild and swap in my Jeep!

That is good to hear, when going to the machine shop you want to have them check to see if the block can " clean up" at .030 or .020 that way you can get the correct pistons. Have them check the balance on the crankshaft, some don't need to be done. Also, have them pressure test the cylinder heads and do a valve job with a resurface and you should be all set, they can balance the pistons and connecting rods as well. So just like Ken said above, you want to balance your new pistons on your rods. You will also need the crank to be balanced as well. Then you want to have the block magnaflux checked for cracks. Make sure they align hone the main caps and the cylinder bores bored to whatever your new pistons are at, usually 0.030 over. I also have them hot tank all my parts so they are nice and clean. The head surface needs to be made completely flat too.

Then for the heads, a valve job and resurface. Also have the heads pressure tested. You should be all good to reassemble after that.
