Engine coolant over temperature warning display

The check engine light will come on when it gets overheated.

As far as the gauge, that is optional to have it display the gauge.

Once the light comes on, it is usually too late as the engine could be damaged.

you are in a catch 22 situation. you are right and wrong at the same time.

Do they want to charge you for the repair? Ford has a five year 50,000 warranty on the power-train. do you fall within those limits?

Unfortunately, I don't fall within the warranty range. However, your answer gives me the reassurance I needed that there was no indication the car was overheated. As for the check engine light you mentioned it has been on for a very long time. More than a couple of years. It first came on when the battery died and had to be replaced. The company replaced it. When I asked them about the check engine light that came on all of the sudden, they asked me to bring the car back in, and then they fixed it and the light turned off, and like a couple days after it was on again. So I dropped by the garage and mentioned it to them and they said I should just ignore it. So I did. Some of my colleagues have the check engine light on and were asked to ignore it as well.
But the problem now is that I don't have any written statement of them saying that. That is truly a catch 22. And yes, they do want to charge me for the repair.

I've read the manual inside-out and could not find where it says the engine temperature gauge is optional. Any ideas?

You have a case with the light. they gave you the wrong answer on the check engine light. it is never to be ignored.

you would have had the warning if the mechanic or the company would have done there job maintaining the car correctly. this falls in their court.
