What causes my car to run hot and cut off and the A/C to cut off while driving?

Could be the radiator and a.c. condensor fans not operating correctly with the a.c. on do the radiator/a.c. fans come on at some point?Also if the check engine light is on with the engine running have you scanned it for codes?
