I have a 58 plate VW Golf 1.9 TDI Match Bluemotion, and when i start the car, it takes a couple of seconds to start up and sometimes the engine management light comes on and stays on for a couple of hours and then goes off again and sometimes the glow-plugs light flashes with the traction control light on as well. Why does this happen? But even when these lights are on, the car runs fine. When starting the car up, whether warm or cold, it takes around five to ten second for it to to start

I need to get the exact code numbers not code descriptions you have could have a high pressure pump going out. The flashing glow plug light is a engine miss fire that is pretty bad.

Sorry, i got confused about the glow plugs. when that comes on with the ESP, they do not flash, the amber light on the glow plug stays on from the ignition as well as the ESP.

Okay, I still need to start by getting the exact code numbers not code descriptions you have in the computer. That is the first thing I would do if I had the car in front of me.

That should be for the camshaft position sensor. You can try using a multimeter to check the ohms reading of the camshaft position sensor.
