emergency brake not working properly

Hi,

There is a good chance it is an adjustment issue. The cable can stretch, but they are adjustable. When you installed the new shoes, did you make adjustments at that point? If you look below, I attached directions for adjusting the shoes and the cables. Try this first and let me know if it takes care of the problem.

If you know there is a broken cable, let me know which one or its location.

It sounds like you will need to adjust the brake. It is likely the issue.
Even though a cable can stretch you can always adjust for the extra length.
Also it is important that the parking brake gets adjusted while replacing the shoes.

Have question. When I adjust the parking brake to 1/8", pedal not applied, and the drum should spin freely? I need to adjust 2nd adjuster (on Drrawing#2) And I don't know where the 2nd adjuster is located in my car, under the car body, or inside the car?

Because after adjusting rear brake show, brake still not holding car. So I need to find a location for 2nd adjuster nut. Thanks.

The adjuster will be under the vehicle. It is at what is called the equalizer assembly. That is where the front cable joins with the two rear cables.

If you look at the attached pics, I highlighted where it's located.

You are very welcome. I know you'll do it right. When you tighten the bolt at the equalizer, that will pull the cable tighter. Just make sure you follow the directions. If you overtighten the bolt, the brakes could be on all the time. We don't want that. LOL

Yes, i will tighten that bolt step by step, and same time after each adjustment. i need to put down the car, to check how it's tight or not.
I'm using a manual jack, it will be a little bit extra job for me. But hope will be done with this problem easy. Thank you again. I let you know how i did.

Sounds like a plan. If you are using the jack which came with the vehicle, please be careful. They aren't the most stable things. Make sure you have safety jack stands to prevent it from coming off the jack.

Hi guys, I did work yesterday with a parking brake. First I open the brake drum, check 1st adjustment nut, after crawling under the car, to find out 2nd adjustment nut.
Like you told to me:

By the way my catalytic converter was stolen and was easy to see what's going on under the vehicle. Because I took out the rear part of the exhaust pipe.
Anyway, I saw like 2 cables coming inside my car interior.
Its means 2nd adjustment nut only inside the interior. And I need probably take some part of floor carpet or even whole front center console between the front seats.
This is another project, because it's hard to make it, but will try.
I was surprised, to adjust the 2nd nut you need to do so much work, cause it lies under the rear carpet or center console? Go try to find out the location of the equalizer.

On many Kia vehicles, that part is under the car. If you see two cables running into the floor pan, then the equalizer must be in the vehicle. You will need to remove the center console to access it.

I attached the directions below for removing the console below.

To pull out the gear shift knob, I think it's not possible. I partially disassembled the panel but in a different order. will try to do next from the pic.#4. It's so hard to do that there is no hope at all. If I can't do it, I will cut the plastic air duct from the heater to the rear passenger seats, to get access to the adjusting nut.

Today I disassembled apart the whole console between the front seats. And got easy access to cables with adjustment nut. After I start adjusting brake pads, on the left and right sides. I made a gap of about 3mm, it was spinning pretty easy. After that start adjusting the nut inside the cabin. But no matter how much I twisted the nut (#7, on the pic.)Part #6 was skewed. As if the right side is a little bit forward. And therefore Left wheel was tight, and the right wheel was revolved. I screwed up adjusting nut max. it's possible and now the left side is very tight, but the right side is very free.
I think it's only one reason Next step I need to order new right cable, from the dealer, and try to replace it. I hope it will be easy. Because nuts holding the cable to the hook behind the brake pads are a little rusty.
Of course, this is a question of I right, and right cable stretched out. But need tries to complete this renovation.

If the left side is overtight, loosen it at the wheel. If the right side is too loose, you can adjust it up a bit to compensate.

It's possible that one side was tighter than the other when you started which caused the issue.

But by instruction, I must adjust rear pads first, with a gap of 3mm. And I did it? After I adjust the nut inside the cabin to the maximum how it's possible, and still right rotor stays loose. I was trying to tight more brake pads on R. side. but it's getting very tuff to put on or take off the rotor from brake pads. Still, I want to change R.cable.

Absolutely replace the cable if you feel it's stretched. As far as the adjustment, when you loosen the right side, it will move the shoes away from the drum and allow it to turn again.

And casually I have another problem with my cooling system.
My radiator fan don't turn on, and one round trip 20 miles, the car got overheated.
After that, it turned out the fan doesn't turn "on" when overheating.
I connected the fans directly to the battery, and both fans worked.
After that I checked the system turning on AC, same results, fan didn't start.
Now I want to check the fan circuit, but I don't know the location of the relays responsible for the fan operation?
If possible could you give me an idea where can I start to find the reasons for not working fans? Thank you.

Yes, it's available on AMZ. Before ordering that OEM, I need to take a look, how to disconnect that stretched cable. Imagine it won't be easy, maybe I need a release tool?
