I recently had to have my rear air-springs replaced and a new compressor. A month after replacement, one of the air-springs developed a crack and was replaced (free of charge) by the dealer who did the original work. However, my handbrake started to play up after the initial repair and now has complete broken, a week after the second repair. Could the technicians have damage the electronic handbrake in anyway when they were replacing the rear air-springs and compressor or is this just a coincidence?

Yes, they could have. Or, it could be pure coincidence.
