When I start my van it starts and seconds later it cuts out and all the electrics are dead

The tachometer and fuel gauge stay in the same position ie no on zero. no cab lights, no lights. This happened yesterday. I pocked around a bit and then it cleared and I started the van and ran it and restarted it several times. All seemed good. This morning it's done exactly the same thing. Any thoughts?
