Flashing check transmission dash light

Check transmission dash light comes on blinking, and shortly afterward the radio loses power intermittently. Charge indicator shows negative or no charge while running. Shortly after that automatic transmission oil temperature, power drive, winter drive, and check transmission lights come on together blinking. Draining the battery power and requiring a jump start. Where possibly could the short be found?

Due to being stopped at a 4-way intersection with a slight uphill climb, the vehicle would not move forward, and when shifted into reverse, it shut off. And would not start for at least 10 minutes. Dropped the transmission pan and discovered that high temperature silicone gasket material was applied excessively so that chunks were in the fluid. Which caused plugging the lines going to the radiator. Resulting in a chugging like action in drive or reverse. Also, while driving on the highway at 55 to 65 MPH there is periods of acceleration and deceleration. Found a pin hole in rubber hose going to inline fuel filter. Which did not fix the problem. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

The first thing we need to do is check the alternator itself. If voltage is low, it will cause all kinds of issues.

Now, you indicated it wasn't charging. If possible, could you follow the following link and let me know the results?

If you have already done that, remove the alternator and have it bench tested at a local parts store. Most will do it free of charge.

One other thing to do is see if there are diagnostic trouble codes. This vehicle has an OBD1 system which doesn't require a scan tool to retrieve codes. All you need is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip. Try this and let me know if there are codes.

The idea that gasket material got into the radiator is interesting. It should have been blocked by the filter. Also, the other concerns will likely be related to a voltage issue.
