I had to change my water pump, timing belt, and crankshaft seal. To do this job, I had to move the alternator out of the area, so I removed the bolts and then rested it on the frame and axle. Once the job was done, I put everything back together. The car starts and runs, but idles high, has the battery light on the dash, and the rpm and temperature gauge are not working. None of the interior lights come on and the headlights are very dim. Also, the car will not go out of park. The brake lights also do not turn on. I checked all grounds, and the fuses under the steering wheel. Checked wires going to alternator and main alternator wire. All good. Don't know exactly how to check the wires in the fuse box under the hood. Wish I had a power probe.

I believe the problem might be that I disconnected grounds while the battery was connected. Could this have blown a fuse? Also, I found out that the bracket holding the top of the alternator is somehow grounded. Is this correct? It's connected to an engine mount with a ground wire connected to the subframe.

Problem solved. Further inspectioned yielded a blown 100a fuse.

Glad you got it fixed. sorry we didn't get to you earlier the site has been busy. Can I ask what blew the fuse? Did the alternator wires touch ground with the battery connected?

Ken, no worries! That is exactly what happened. I didnt unhook the ground from the battery. It was a learning lesson for me, thankfully without a major investment to fix (new fuse was $4) :-)
