First a reference link to the original thread

Kenny said I should start a new thread.

2004 Elantra GT

No codes being shown, I have replaced the input output position sensors and transmission relay; I tried using that gadget Micro Mechanic OBD reader for a phone to get a better read, but it only worked intermittently (fuse is good) but it worked constantly on another car.

I have read through threads, saw the LR solenoid may be at fault, but it will shift into first and reverse, but will not shift to second gear. It tries but slams itself back into first gear.

I am thinking that since the OBD reader worked sometimes, and the car will go into first and reverse but not second, could the computer (ECM) be at fault? Since it controls the LR solenoid?

Thanks for any help!

What does it do if you manually shift from first into second? If it works shifting it manually then it is likely an electronic issue not mechanical.

It does nothing, it stays in first if I shift it to second.

Another question, what controls the LR solenoid valve I have read about? What tells it to move?

That isn't good. Manually shifting it but it not actually going into second suggests internal failure. However, the first thing would be to get a factory level scan tool connected and see what the transmission control module shows for codes if any. The low end tools will not be able to read those codes normally. Once you can get to that you can see if it provides any direction. I wouldn't keep changing parts until you actually can see the codes.
