Valve removed and inspected and manifold inspected. No significant carbon deposits.
Valve replaced with another used one from pick n pull after it was cleaned and movement tested. Check engine light still on. Existing valve cleaned and replaced, still throwing code. Frustration finding an exact replacement but eventually did but brand new valve still generates check engine light.
So I’ve been reading and watching videos. My conclusion is most of the time, EGR codes are NOT related to the valve itself but to some other aspect of the emissions system.
None of the testing I’ve seen/read is ever done. So how do we identify the actual issue?
Vehicle doesn’t seem to have any of the issues that are supposed to be associated with this code, other than the check engine light. I’ve been tracking MPG and averaging 25mpg seems ok for the vintage of the vehicle. So what damage is being done while the problem goes undiagnosed and we just throw parts at it?
Previous owner said their mechanic “checked everything“ and could never find a problem.
It bugs me looking at the check engine light, not knowing how it is affecting the vehicle.
